Students will learn the history through the sharing of mo’olelo, the spiritual practice of Pule, an introduction to traditional protocols, and base line of Hawaiian terminology in regard to anatomy and healing modalities, and basic intro Lomilomi techniques & traditional tools. Disclaimer: This course does not provide a certification or licensing of Lomilomi. Lomilomi is not merely a technique or modality of massage. Traditional Lomilomi is a calling, a spiritual practice, and a lifelong commitment that is built over time, under the teaching of a Kumu. There are many Pā or school of Lomilomi. Some of which will be introduced to those who completed this coursework. Each Pā is unique in the lineage they come from, and the style of Lomi and traditions that they teach. The traditions of this practice are sacred to our people and are upheld by the chosen Kumu, and practitioners called to this work. We have a council of elders “Aha kupuna” on each island, that help to oversee and ensure that these traditions are maintained, and not being abused. The Hawaiian community does not condone the acculturation of any Hawaiian practice, and or abuse of its traditions or language. Kawainui Healing Academy is unique in that is has chosen to build its foundations, upon creating strong Pilina within the Lāhui, and with Hawaiian practitioners across the pae’āina. Our mission and intention at this academy, is to always uphold the traditions, the protocols, and the Mana of the people of this land.
